MANIFESTO

The world can be an ugly place. Life gets heavy sometimes, and we don't always think we can shoulder the crap that gets thrown our way. We get angry, and lonely, and we feel helpless. But we are stronger than we realize. We are built to handle adversity, and I believe we have the power to create and control our own happiness--though it doesn't always seem that way. If we let the darkness cloud our judgment, fall into the abyss of self-doubt, and allow our problems and failures to define us instead of our goals and achievements, we waste precious time.

It is easy to get stuck. To confine who we are and who we can be. However, looking at life from a limited, unidirectional perspective blinds us from the endless possibilities that culminate in our peripherals. Life is not just a linear progression; it is a complex meshwork of multi-layered twists and turns that lead to a million different destinations. When it gets overwhelming, we have to remember that we can't get lost because we made the map--and it's ever-changing.

Goodness and positivity are our fuel. The people we love, our passions, and the small things that make us happy remind us that life is worth living. That each day is filled with new promise; that the past doesn't have to shape the future.

I don't pretend that the ugly doesn't exist or that it isn't worth talking about. Injustice and devastation terrorize humanity on a daily basis. Nevertheless, we cannot drown ourselves in sorrow, hatred, or incapacity. We have to hold onto hope and let the bad motivate us to discover and reestablish the good.

It is my intent to take advantage of every opportunity within my reach. I plan to fully seize the life I have been given in the hope I leave a better world than the one I came into. This blog is my space to chronicle the light, inspiration and beauty I find on my journey.\
